ABOUT:

I create something and the something starts to talk back and tell me where it wants to go. The creator becomes the follower. Taking a line, or in this case a paint brush, for a walk.
It is about letting go of control and seeing what voices come through when I am silent. None of these pictures are the images I set out to make, they evolve over time.
It is about believing in Magic. The unexpected is only an opportunity for surprises.
In my practice I employ direct observation, accident and collage, transcription and auto-gesture, sabotage and making a virtue of poor materials and brushes.
My work is evolving- through me from somewhere to somewhere else. I enjoy having a conversation with the material in my hands, the voice on the radio, the birdsong beyond my window. Being silent a while.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
