Discipline:

Multidisciplinary Artist

Location:

Plymouth, England / Aberdare, South Wales

ABOUT:

While I am currently studying a BA in Fashion Media and Marketing, I have realised that I can’t relate to any of the expectations of that industry, and subsequently changed the direction of my art entirely. The majority of my work draws on my experience growing up in the South Wales Valleys. The biggest inspirations behind my practice are personal memories, old family photos and social traditions. Themes of nostalgia, community and cultural criticism are all present in some way throughout my work. While the tone of my work varies project-to-project, I try to retain the overarching sense of pride and resilience of the post-industrial region. I am looking forward to being able to explore these topics further and broaden my practice and skill set in the near future.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
