ARTISTS STATEMENT

As a Designer Maker, I am deeply drawn to the vibrant dynamic energy of urban culture. The pulsating rhythms of Acid House to the gritty, raw beauty of graffiti and urban art I am constantly inspired by the diversity and vitality in our cities and surrounding environs and drawing on my own life experiences.

My work is informed by the vibrant energy and DIY spirit of Acid House and street art. The aim is to permeate my ceramics and screen prints with the same bold, rebellious spirit.

My body of work reflects this eclectic blend of influences, drawing on the bold, expressive lines and vibrant colour palettes of street art and graffiti as well as the hypnotic sound of Acid House. Through my making and creating I seek to capture the energy and atmosphere of the urban landscape, evoking a sense of excitement and possibility.

At the same time, my works speaks to deeper themes of political, social commentary and personal expression. Through my use of bold colour and dark gritty clay, I aim to challenge conventional norms and encourage viewers to question the status quo.

My aim as a Designer Maker is to create work that not only engages and humours the senses and encourages meaningful dialogue and reflection. By embracing the rich tapestry of urban culture and exploring its many layers and dimensions, I hope to engage to a larger audience through tongue in cheek conversations.

In my ceramics my aim is to experiment with unconventional techniques, or happy accidents that take on interesting form and incorporate found objects and other materials to create authentic pieces that express my personality.

My love of Acid House and street art is reflected in my collage and screen prints often featuring bright colours, bold typography, and graphic imagery. I am interested in exploring the ways in which these artforms can be used to communicate powerful messages. I aim to create prints that are both aesthetically pleasing and socially relevant.

Overall, my work is an expression of my passion for the creative process and my belief in the power of art to inspire, challenge and transform. I am constantly pushing the boundaries of my own creativity and hope that my work inspires others to do the same.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
