Discipline:

Visual artist, Multidisciplinary

Location:

Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom

ABOUT:

Catrina McGregor is a multimedia artist based in Glasgow, Scotland that works with mediums such as Butoh performance, video, installation, painting, and drawing. Her practice explores themes of sentience, mortality, and the liminal space between life and death. She describes her practice as an exploration into the liminal space by giving bodies to the bodiless for them to have presence in a physical world, and with presence, a platform to explain themselves. Through her explorations, she has come across moral conflicts with the inhabitants regarding sentience and mortality. The inhabitants criticise her mortal intentions of 'finding her lost loved ones' because they do not consider death as 'loss', nor do they find the gift of mortality that thrilling.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
