Discipline:

Multidisciplinary Artist

Location:

Wicklow, Ireland

ABOUT:

My CV is a soup of various experiences; advertising, storytelling, song collecting, business, money making, stand-up comedy, theatre, film making and jazz music; all of it driven by the creative process. Some for an audience some for wages, and as time progresses I see 'jobs' as a fabric of my practice as a working class artist.

Amongst this array of work over the past 25 years I’ve always made paintings and stories.

For me, the positive will of a community is the essence of any idea that is good. I entered adulthood in Northern Ireland just at the cusp of the Good Friday Agreement, this has instilled in me a great love for making meaning with our words and intentions.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
