Stefan Szczelkun

Discipline:

Artist and writer

Location:

London and Portland, Dorset.

ABOUT:

My focus in the last ten years has been on open artists collectives that I have been part of. This just culminated in the publication of my RCA doctoral thesis 'Exploding Cinema 1991 - 1999: culture and democracy'. I have also been bringing out books documenting recent photographic projects, and an illustrated polemical book 'SiLENCE!' which is an extension of my 1993 book 'The Conspiracy of Good Taste'. The themes of class and culture permeate my bookworks since the mid Eighties.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
