ABOUT:

Alice May Stewart (alice may s) is a 22 year old mixed media artist, from and based in Grimsby, UK.

Currently enrolled on BA Fine Art at UAL Central Saint Martins on the 4D+ pathway, Alice's work explores themes of class, gender, sexuality, mental health and everyday life through the lens of humour and a DIY-based, often glittery approach.

Alice's main passion in her practice is making art accessible to people from all backgrounds. Being a working class artist from an area with low cultural exposure, like Grimsby in North East Lincolnshire, Alice aims to break through the elitism of the contemporary art world and make art accessible to people from all backgrounds.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
