Angela Stott

Discipline:

Artist

Location:

York, UK

ABOUT:

Angela Stott is an artist based in North Yorkshire, working traditionally in watercolour, charcoal, and pastels. Her work explores the human connection with the natural world through a deeply felt affinity for trees, Angela works in a way that reflects the beauty of trees and the effects of spending time with trees on the imagination.
Angela feels that the trees speak to us, and through their stories, we can learn how to come back to Earth's community. The trees tell us that if we work in collaboration with Earth's community, our artwork will grow like leaves, flowers and songs.Angela creates safe spaces where her work can open up coversations about the ultra natural, where people feel safe to discuss what the trees told them.
As Thomas Berry once said, ‘The universe is composed of subjects to be communed with, not objects to be exploited.’

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
