Location:

Romford, UK/Rotterdam, NL

ABOUT:

I am an artist, poet and curator who grew up in Romford, though is currently based between the UK and Netherlands. I studied Fine Art BA at Nottingham Trent University and MFA at Piet Zwart Institute.

I am a socially engaged artist using performance, video and sculpture that extends beyond the gallery - currently focusing on ideas of identity, belonging and ‘home’. Drawing from hidden stories and histories, depicting personal and societal struggles of transformation, that show another 'present' is possible.

I have exhibited internationally and established residencies/public arts projects across the UK, such as; Boijmans, Het Nieuwe Instituut Glasgow international Arts Festival, Life Rotterdam, Locatie Z, La La Vallée, Architecture Fringe Scotland, Glasgow Open House Festival, SPACE London, The Number Shop, Galerie Visualise, Fjuk Arts Centre, Generator, Primary.

I worked for a major political campaigns organisation as a web designer and developer in London and in 2016 I was commissioned to develop a digital education scheme across 7 Libraries in Scotland. Since I have joined Studio Jeanneworks as Arts Producer, working on developing long term socially engaged artworks and exhibitions and also am a Associate Lecturer in Fine Art at Derby University, UK.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
