ABOUT:

Chloë Louise Lawrence (1991) is an artist from Woolwich, South East London, and is based in Manchester. Through text, printmaking and sculpture, Chloë reflects on growing up in council housing and the transient nature of those spaces. She works through the feelings of loss, longing, and nostalgia - weaving those themes through a Working Class narrative.

Chloë is a studio holder and co-treasurer at the artist-led co-operative Bankley Studios + Gallery in Levenshulme. She studied Painting at Camberwell College of Arts (2014), and went on to obtain an MA in Print from the Royal College of Art (2019). Chloë has also worked as an artist educator, working with Bow Arts, Creative Health Camden (formerly Free Space Project), and in schools.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
