Courtney Snow

Discipline:

multidisciplinary artist

Location:

London

ABOUT:

Taking excerpts from dreams, intuition and desires, Snow is a multimedia artist with an interest in deconstructed drawing. Her work comes from a desire to comprehend who she is and what she is tied to in this world. Partaking in a back and forth between life and personal histories, Snows practice evokes and embraces tragedy, with sensuality and humour at it’s core. Relationships and bleakness often appear as she analytically side steps nihilism. With indulgence and melodrama, Snow scratches and gathers bits from her continuous writing practice and introduces them where most decisions are made, in the belly of a woman. She assembles body-like pieces and explores the aggression, sexual sweetness and struggle of female narratives through the lens of a working-class person, expressing that almost everything she creates is an unconscious variation of self-portraiture.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
