ABOUT:

Growing up, I drew a little, but most of my childhood memories involved playing football. Early Saturday morning drives in my dad’s Vauxhall Vectra were mostly spent in silence as I anxiously anticipated kick-off. The nerves were helped a little by the pre-match meal of a Mars bar and a Lucozade Sport, but I guess I’ve always been pretty pessimistic. Once on the pitch, this worked well for me as a central defender. Despite not being noticeably tall or strong, I was great at reading where the ball would go. Good old pessimism.

Despite this, ’Tall and strong’ are perhaps more desirable traits for growing up in South London. As such, I found ways to hide. An overindulgence in sugar paired nicely with video games as a young teenager, before weed accompanied the skatepark in my late teens. Naturally, the pub is the final evolution for a British male seeking to blend in.

My work follows a journey out of the comfort of ordinary British life and into the art world. Utilising technology, I am still in many ways attempting to ‘blend in’; however, this time it’s more about creating work that is ‘good enough’ and photographed properly….

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
