Discipline:

Mixed media artist, painter

Location:

St Leonards on Sea

ABOUT:

I am a painter exploring emotional landscapes, identity and the tension between what is shown and what is hidden. Striving for stability and understanding, I often mask my true emotions beneath the façade that everything is fine. The internal push and pull to contain vulnerability while maintaining control informs both the content and process of my work.

My practice is intuitive and process driven., grounded in an exploration of the material qualities of paint. Texture, layering and mark making are metaphors for what lies beneath the surface. I often combine other mediums such as charcoal and pastels to deepen the emotional resonance. These abstract works are in essence, emotional self-portraits. They reflect parts of myself I try to manage or contain, yet inevitably seep through.

Barriers, negative space and fragmented forms serve as visual devices to express control, concealment and the quiet struggle of being seen. Through painting, I navigate the delicate balance between exposure and protection.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
