Discipline:

Painting

Location:

Beverley, East Riding of Yorkshire

ABOUT:

I believe that every kind of art are food for the soul.

My work is guided by the ABC concept:

Accessible

Beautiful

Contentful

I try to make art which is accessible in the sense that ordinary people can understand it. I do not like art which confuses people. It is as if art has been stolen from people. We began making art millennia ago to help us make sense of our world and communicate ideas. In art, obfuscation is theft.

I love beautiful things: architecture, art, music, design, clothing. I think art should strive to be beautiful and that it is possible for beautiful works to also say something.

I think art can speak explicit or subliminal truth to everyone. This is where art is contentful. OK so I made up this word. (Does that mean I have copyright on it?!) Seriously though there is a lot to be said about life, the world and everything. So why not say it?

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
