Ian Shillito

Discipline:

Production Arts Educator, Artist

Location:

London and Hastings

ABOUT:

With over 30 years working across both visual and production arts, my work is multi disciplinary. I swing from immersive theatrical responses to visual storytelling and back again. I’m discovering that as a working class creative who’s not been to uni or whose the only family member in the arts the road is often challenging and I need to speak louder to be heard and seen. To counteract this my practice has developed platforms where I can express my thoughts and experiences.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
