ABOUT:

“Jay Sutherland grew up in rural Ayrshire, Scotland. They are now studying and living in Glasgow. Jay’s work focuses on the idea of the transient home moving around since the age of 17, with a particular interest in how it relates to youth liberation theory - especially showing how different young, working class and queer people move through life and the ups and downs that come with it. Jay’s experience of temporary homelessness and age based discrimination/violence heavily influences his writings and photo work which will be published in his new zine “In the Gaze of Youth Liberation.”

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
