ABOUT:

I am a multidisciplinary artist whose practice encompasses visual art, performance, writing, and craft. My background as an actress and former stand-up comedian continues to inform the narrative and performative qualities of my work, while my skills as a craftswoman and writer bring detail, texture, and layered meaning to the objects and stories I create.

Born in the late 1960s and raised on a council estate, I draw on working-class heritage and lived experience as a foundation for my practice. These origins instilled in me a resourcefulness and an instinct to reimagine the ordinary, uncovering moments of resilience, humour, and wonder within everyday life.

My work often balances the playful with the poignant, combining elements of folklore, surrealism, and craft traditions with contemporary themes. By moving fluidly across disciplines, I challenge fixed boundaries of artistic practice and invite audiences to encounter the familiar from new and unexpected perspectives.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
