South West London

ABOUT:

Joey Toogood is a self-representational artist and photographer based in Wimbledon Art Studios, London, graduating with a BA in Fine Art from the University for the Creative Arts, Farnham, in 2022.
Taking inspiration from personal stories and her experiences as a working-class, queer woman artist, Toogood's work permits her to begin again, re-imagining a future of self liberation.
Creating text-based art using newspapers and witty statements, Toogood reflects on her place as an artist within contemporary society, while also contemplating the legacy her work will leave behind. Aware that her creations may outlive her, she finds meaning in capturing and preserving the world as she experiences it.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
