Discipline:

Multidisciplinary Artist

Location:

London

ABOUT:

Pia Jaime's diverse art practice ranges from ceramics to photography, (analogue and digital) to reflect on ideas of love, neurodiversity and the perception of care.
These reflections can take immutable forms, like tiles ,sculptures and photographs.I use props and everyday objects (in front or behind the lenses) to distort or alter intimate daily moments while working with a digital camera. My images transform a familiar space into something uncertain and dreamlike, where time feels suspended and place becomes fragile. I also use camera-less photography that allows me to embrace chance, materiality, and imperfection, these images become even more abstract and ethereal.
In recent years I started exhibiting my photography in conjunction with my porcelain works. I see these objects as a proof of existence, they may not have a recognisable shape but they occupy a clear space and can be touched without taking on the responsibility of the public’ s reactions, they speak of an internal world trying to communicate with the outside structures of power.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
