ABOUT:

Nicole Zihua Zhang (张梓华) is an art writer and curator. Graduated from MRes Art Exhibition Studies at Central Saint Martins, her curatorial research interests focus on the entanglement of embodied human experience and contemporary art by engaging with archival critique, alternative historical narratives, and curatorial methods of social inquiry. Independent curatorial projects include the long running program “In Between Zones,” which explores the cultural identity of mobile workers in China and migrants with different cultural background from a transnational perspective through exhibitions, publications, and podcasts, as well as the exhibition “In Between the Fields” at ChunYangTai Arts and Cultural Centre in Guangzhou (2023). Additionally, she organised and hosted a speaking event titled “Keywords for Art in the Fields” in Guangzhou to discuss why and how artists take the field as an object and method of work for many years. Her past writings primarily examined the climate of Chinese contemporary art and can be found in The Art Journal, Artforum, Gallery Magazine, and others.

Born in Foshan, China and lives in London, UK.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
