ABOUT:

A lot of my work starts off as a joke, a fleeting thought- then it becomes serious. I think that there's a lot of truth in humour, and believe that it's one of the most honest forms of delivery.
Initially, my practice was concerned with queer archives, signalling, and the concept of the remix. I have explored this through painting, video, writing, and installation, interweaving these mediums to translate, repurpose, and reappropriate images.
As of recently, my interest has turned towards the industrial, and using industrial materials. Growing up in Derby, with a family in the trades and grandparents who moved from other places and countries to work in factories across the East Midlands. I have developed an interest in factory signage and industrial materials, and how these can be combined with queer identity and humour.
Humour has become a major part of my practice, as a way of translating perhaps more personal experiences into immediate and relatable moments. I believe that humour is as meaningful as “serious work.” For me, humour is a way to be more truthful and honest.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
