Multidisciplinary Artist

Location:

Sheffield

ABOUT:

Sara Prinsloo is a multidisciplinary artist exploring lived experiences through creative mediums. Studying both Fine Art and Illustration, she often fuses the two styles and techniques in her 2D work. She also explores 3D practices such as textiles, sculpture and mould-making, with a special interest in textures and the everyday.

Influenced by subcultures, skateboarding, and DIY culture, Sara’s work reflects the chaotic energy of youth. Growing up as a working-class child in the UK during the 90s and 00s, she was fully immersed in 'Ladette' and 'Chav' culture. Living on a council estate in a small village on the outskirts of Manchester, she uses her art practice to reflect on these times. Often working with themes of recklessness, mental health, and chaos, she brings culturally relevant narratives into the art world from a working-class, female perspective.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
