Shona Sterland

Discipline:

Photographer, Visual Artist

Location:

Manchester

ABOUT:

Shona Sterland is a visual artist whose work explores themes of absurdity within the landscape, and how human interactions with the land create uncanny experiences for both the viewer and the artist. Sterland’s work aims to portray human interactions with the land as an act of performance, leaving traces of ourselves on the land either intentionally or unwittingly. By depicting her own actions within the landscape, she examines the eternal human struggle of searching for meaning in our actions and challenges traditional notions of both landscape art and photography.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
