Discipline:

Fashion designer, brand owner

Location:

London

ABOUT:

I am the designer and founder of a small independent brand called Mai Ardour. I grew up in South London in a working-class environment where creativity had to be practical, resourceful, and self-taught. That upbringing shaped the foundation of my brand. My practice is built around pattern-making and garment construction, and I share my methods openly through affordable sewing patterns and free video tutorials. I want people to feel empowered to create their own clothing, to understand how garments are made, and to value the time and labour behind them. Alongside fashion, I also love dancing, yoga and acting - anything that allows me to move my body and express myself!

WORKS:

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
