ABOUT:

My practice emanates a visualisation of the chaotic mind through the themes of performance and installation. The use of delicate materials and repetitive motions take a metaphorical stance on the fragility and vulnerability of mental wellbeing whilst also celebrating the strength of the individual.

Brought up in Blackburn, Lancashire, I now reside in Wakefield after graduating with a BA in Fine Art. My journey into further education was unconventional due to lengthy stays in hospital due to ill mental health in my teens and early 20s. Becoming more and more institutionalised, art and poetry became my only form of expression. By engaging in this innate creativity, art became a cathartic tool for recovery and a means of communication with family and friends.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
