ABOUT:

Amy Gillies is a contemporary artist who lives and works in London. Across various forms of media, her work utilises the possibilities of quotation and collage to connect lines of inquiry between the past and present. Pre-existing and found materials are often juxtaposed, repositioned, and rewritten to engage with contemporary social and political dialogue.
Born in 1995 and having witnessed the difference between society before and after the internet, globalisation, and the neo-liberal consensus, Gillies’ work is underpinned by how Britain’s national identity manifests in our language and visual culture.
Amy completed an MFA in Fine Art from Kingston School of Art, where she had studied a BA Hons in Fine Art and Art History previously. Since graduating, Amy has taken part in the Artists in Residence programme at One Paved Court in Richmond, and has exhibited and performed in several group exhibitions including The London Art Grads Now 2021 and Focus Art Fair 2023 at Saatchi Gallery. Her written work has been published in Secret Chords: A Poetry Anthology of the Best of Folklore Prize, Alternate Route, The Jupiter Review, Stone of Madness Press, Swim Press, and Tiny Wren.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
