ABOUT:

My name is Amy Kim Grogan, I am a Scottish sculptor that just recently graduated from the MFA programme at the Glasgow School of Art with Distinction. Prior to my MFA I gained a BA(hons) in Sculpture and Environmental Art from the Glasgow School of Art in 2017. In 2015 I spent a semester abroad studying at Bergen Academy of Art and Design and subsequently had a solo show in Bergen (2017) titled ‘The Garden Party’. Recent exhibitions include Oak Ornaments (Greenock, 2023), The Sound of a Falling Tree (Valencia, 2022) Everything Must Go (Glasgow, 2022), Glasgow Open House (Glasgow, 2021) and Knicknackered (Edinburgh, 2021). Public Art exhibits include site specific work produced for Drumchapel Table Tennis Club and South Portland Street Suspension Bridge, both presented in 2021. Throughout the MFA I produced two publications; a miniature catalogue titled ‘Exhibition Series for Mice’ and a regular sized book ‘How to Plan, Plonk + Participate Public Art’.

My work regularly stems from disrupting and/or emphasising overlooked objects and acts – all arise from a fundamental interest or an occasional discomfort on my behalf. I relay my curiosity through increased scale, multiples and material. Collectively, all pieces exert absurdity and often humour.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
