Amy Rose Barnes

Discipline:

Artist (Fine Art Drawing and collage) and Artist Educator

Location:

South East London

ABOUT:

My practice is centred in abstract drawing and collage, responding to commonly observed, but often overlooked, natural forms, lines and patterns which I abstract away from their original context. My process is explored through a meditative and intuitive state of mind, embodying the balance of gravity, growth and movement through composition. Over the years of working with children and young people (through running workshops with the Royal Academy, Bow Arts, Drawing Room and more) I have seen my practice evolve. They have encouraged me to use more free, ‘messy’ mark making and to embrace joyful, bright colours.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
