Discipline:

Visual artist, Filmmaker

Location:

London E2

ABOUT:

I am based in London and work with film, performance and painting. Working collaboratively is something I love, especially on sound and I have been involved in collective projects over many years, including Supernormal Festival, Inspiral London, The Commonist Gallery and See Red Women's Workshop. I also teach art and film. I am currently starting work on an expanded film about class, sexuality and labour called 'The Hurrier'. This draws on records of my matrilineal ancestors from church courts and poorshouses being chastised for sexuality and abused though work.I am interested in using art practice and film to expand hidden moments from 'real' histories of the unrecorded as they speak to now - in this case working class women.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
