Discipline:

Painter

Location:

Bradford/Leeds

ABOUT:

Painting from a family archive that I have collected over several years, I’m interested in how visual language changes through medium to medium, such as photography, drawing and translating it to a painting.
Working from collage and digital drawings, then transferring these to paintings, using the digital drawings and images I edit to help me colour plan the painting.
Looking at the female gaze and power structures between man, woman and child.
In new works I’ve been looking at what it’s like to be a working-class artist, looking at childhood and memories to influence my paintings.

I often only paint people I really know and that have/been in my life.

Currently I’m doing a project of all the women in my life alongside writing my dissertation which is on working-class Feminism.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
