Discipline:

Community Arts Practitioner, Facilitator, Dramaturg

Location:

Glasgow

ABOUT:

Courtney is a community arts practitioner, theatre-maker, and storyteller dedicated to the transformative power of the performing arts. Rooted in her lived experience as a working-class and care-experienced woman, her practice is driven by a deep commitment to amplifying unheard voices, dismantling barriers to creativity, and proving that theatre can be used as a tool for social and systemic change.

While her primary artistic home is theatre, Courtney blends various artforms including storytelling and puppetry to design immersive, deeply collaborative, and accessible experiences. She thrives on leading participatory workshops that empower individuals to discover their own artistic voices and claim their space on the stage. She has collaborated with a range of arts organisations and charities to support their participation programmes; including, The Citizens Theatre, The Village Storytelling Centre, The Gaiety Theatre, and Tortoise in a Nutshell. Guided by the belief that theatre belongs to everyone, Courtney continuously pushes boundaries to foster meaningful, lasting connections through art.

WORKS:

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
