ABOUT:

Danny Young is a Welsh Sculptor, currently based in London. He completed an MA in Sculpture at the Royal College of Art in 2024 and is interested in narrating the societal difficulties and experiences surrounding Social Class, through referencing his own Welsh, working-class background.
His work is interested in showcasing a visual culture, underrepresented within contemporary sculpture, which is enriched in its own aesthetic, taste, language and imagery that convenes an excluded identity and culture within our society. As a gay male his work also looks to highlight common experiential issues surrounding masculinity and queerness within the roots of working-class communities. Through the oppression of love and gay affection/sex and the history and continued act of cruising. He also is interested in the relationships within the fetishisation of the ‘scally/ chav’ in the gay community through its desired depiction of masculinity.
Through Humour, play and sincerity, his work depicts ‘common’ culture and showcases the rough and unapologetic beauty of the Working-class.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
