Deb Zebra

Discipline:

Visual Artist/Poet

Location:

Brighton UK

ABOUT:

I’m interested in ideas of working class, urban life and deprivation, how that translates into experience and may allow for the development of the self, or cause it to atrophy. I use drawing and printmaking methods to create worlds of human meaning and struggle.
Influences: Picasso, Basquiat, Guston, Peter Saul.
I try to pull people in, to convey a disturbance, so someone may know or recognize how it feels. I like something playful and requiring thought.
I find my work is like a trick. I never know what’s coming, what’s gone.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
