Artist, Printmaker, Sign writer, Painter

Location:

ABOUT:

Devon Osborne grew up near Ashford, Kent, where she went to school. Her father was an HGV driver, her mother worked in a care home, and Devon was the first from her family to go on to further education. She gained a BA in Graphic Communication Design in 2017 from Central School of St Martins. She works in a variety of media, from oil to watercolour to gold-leaf signwriting and currently lives in North London.

The theme of Dev’s first solo exhibition, “Oh, Go On Then!”, was pub culture. It was held in the upstairs room of an Archway pub in 2024, and showcased some of the unsung moments that take place in pubs across the country. It included traditional gilded mirrors, sign-written in gold leaf with timeless phrases like “Fancy a pint?”, oil paintings of splitting the harp of a pint of Guinness; and lino prints of pub moments. One of the aims of this show was to create affordable pieces of art, for the culture that they reflected.

Dev's work focuses on relatable British culture, using wit and nostalgia to record the quirks of everyday life to create art that's both playful and thought-provoking.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
