ABOUT:

Externalizing the emotional war of coming of age within the imperial core is a battle fought on multiple fronts—against the values we’ve been taught, our ability to truly listen to our bodies, and most tragically our capacity to see and treat one another as human beings. My art is born from that grief, heartbreak, and growing pains. It’s an attempt to process change, confront my own complacence, and take action on an undying desire for shared connection.

Often times I feel like if I can make these experiences into something that materially exists outside of myself, then they aren’t competing with my ongoing desire to be present - something I feel we’re all fighting for the room to do.

Stylistically, I lean heavily into surrealism to preserve the full weight of my experiences. Through years of being dismissed as “too sensitive”, I learned that emotions aren’t something to be filtered out of our retellings, but instead an objective and sometimes seemingly tangible part of our distinct lenses; so I give them colors, shapes, arms, and things to say for the sake of their intensity and truth.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
