ABOUT:

Elcid is a London-based, self-taught director, writer, editor and photographer. As a working class, BAME, neurodiverse and disabled man with a transcultural upbringing, Elcid's work reflects the broad brush of his lived experiences, seeking to create space for underrepresented voices and stories. Elcid's writing and filmmaking portfolio ranges bold, thought-provoking, political and socially orientated subject matters. Passionate about visual storytelling, Elcid followed an MA in Film Theory at UCL with a spell in freelance journalism and photography, before making his filmmaking debut with the short documentary, 'Revolutionary Roads' (2010), which premiered at Sheffield Doc/Fest and went on to win Current TV’s Short Cuts prize. Elcid has since grafted his indie production label, Crimson Black Productions, and gone on to write and direct several visually striking short films. These include 'PIRANHA' (2014) and 'UNSKIN' (2018), with each project successively more ambitious. In response to the Covid-19 lockdowns, Elcid created ‘Lost for Words’ (2021), a dramedy short film inspired by and set during the pandemic, that has won awards and gained a wide-ranging positive reception.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
