ABOUT:

I’m a Kent based painter and multimedia artist looking to broaden my scope into sculpture, performance and installation. I have a background in English and Philosophy, and during my studies I focused on ecology and perceptions of the environment, delving into topics such as deep time and ambient environs. Now I draw my focus to ‘last things’ and entropy, and foregrounding the peripheries - waste first and foremost. I seek to discover an ecology of waste and steer away from stewardship models of the environment towards one where we acknowledge the parts that we like to forget - to paraphrase Timothy Morton ‘to jump down into the dirt and look at what we have done’. I do this with the intersections of class and gender and geographies in mind.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
