Elina Rudzie

Discipline:

Painter, Sculptor

Location:

Hailsham, East Sussex

ABOUT:

Elina is Latvian born multidisciplinary artist mainly focusing on painting and sculpture. In 2010 she moved to London where she studied Paining at Camberwell College of Arts, now she lives and works as a picture framer in East Sussex.
In Elinas' practice majority of pieces tend to begin with many layers of abstract "mess" that involve plenty of sanding and scrubbing in between to achieve unique textures, depth and aged look to her work, then, by observing the abstract, shapes and faces begin to emerge, which are then are pulled out to the forefront by defining them and adding fine details. Every piece reveals itself in the process, it's always a surprise which contains a meaningful message from the subconscious, Elina believes. Many viewers have described her work as an embodiment of something very familiar and timeless.
Over the years, admirers of her work have given homes to her pieces in Australia, China, Los Angeles and many European countries.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
