Hannah Ekuwa Buckman

Discipline:

Drawer, Painter, Illustrator

Location:

London, UK

ABOUT:

My work spans across illustration, drawing and painting. Dealing with themes of identity, the surreal, eerie and uncanny, supernatural or superhuman. The permeating calm and stillness of the air when walking through a forest. My mixed Scottish and Ghanaian heritage often means straddling in-between worlds and cultures, it feels important to try to create my own.

I studied at The Royal Drawing School (2020) and Camberwell College of Arts (2015) and have worked with The New York Times, Google, It’s Nice That, Nike, gal-dem, Shygirl etc. I currently illustrate a bi-weekly column ‘Brooding’ for The CUT.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
