John Clark

Discipline:

Writer, Director in Filmmaking and Poet.

Location:

Peterborough

ABOUT:

Growing up in Basildon, Essex in a Neurodivergent Family, John has faced the double barriers of being Working Class and Autistic, that has helped inform his most successful work as a Filmmaker.

Diagnosed at 4, John felt liberated with his self acceptance and unmasking of his Autism, compelled to create work informed by his lived experiences as an Autistic adult, spurring him on to community engagement work achieving Disability Advocacy through creative expression.

At present, the strong sense of equity and justice remain a core driving force behind John's perseverance to create a rich medium of work that aims to dispel perpetuated stereotypes around the deaf, disabled and neurodivergent working class lives often troubled by this Intersectionality.

WORKS:

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
