Joseph Clinton Ojemuyiwa

Discipline:

Multidisciplinary Artist

Location:

Kent / London

ABOUT:

Clinton is a multidisciplinary artist born in Kent, UK, who curates cross-collaborative exhibitions, showcasing emerging artists in immersive settings.

Through sculpture, painting and film he takes a step away from traditional representations, digging out space for introspection and vulnerability. This often requires the embrace of discordance and renewal.

During the pandemic the internet became a requirement to receive spiritual communion, and the Holy Eucharist was inaccessible. Globally, religious practices that have occurred the same way for millennia adapted.
This opened his line of inquiry - How does technology disrupt or extend narratives of faith, suffering, renewal, and transcendence? Moreover, what does it mean for machines to become co-authors of devotional form?

Chinese born Contemporary—Yansi Lian commented: “Clinton's paintings know him before he knows them”. His work makes visible ‘the inner chapel’ —a space where the tender heart and the spirit sound.
-- Inner chapel: A term within Christian Spiritual Mysticism, postulated by St Julian of Norwich, uncovered between the 14th-17th century, discussed by Fr Benedict Groeschel --

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
