Kara Thorndike

Discipline:

Multidisciplinary Artist

Location:

Dundee, Scotland, UK

ABOUT:

Kara Thorndike is interested in how we choose to be and why. She seeks wisdom in
understanding the context of experiences that shape how we are. Her experiences working in education, social service, social science, design, and art have been a journey to piece together fragments of living in the cracks. In studying social systems, private/public, and inclusion/exclusion via a MA in Sociology and a practice-centered MFA in Art and Humanities, she rejects that life, work, family, and environment are separate and/or static. Kara's work intentionally reveals overlooked experiences of being, realized and otherwise, and multiple potentialities.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
