ABOUT:

I am a visual artist, “born (2001) ‘n’ bread” in Stoke on Trent currently studying a BFA at the Slade School of Fine Art. My work draws from my experiences growing up in a post-industrial city whose social identity I explore through a sort of conceptual prankishness that uses a variety of pop culture references, past and present, alongside a social critique of what that identity means in a broader Modern British context.

Thinking about the nature of my practice I enjoy a quote from Apocalypse Now when Colonel Kurtz asks Willard, “Are my methods unsound?” and Willard answers “I don’t see any method at all, sir.” I’ve used Text, Sculpture, Video, Textile, Print, Drawing and often return to Ceramics - you can take the girl out of the Potters, but can’t take the Potters out of the girl I guess.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
