ABOUT:

Kathleen Foley

In my artistic practice, I delve into the interplay of colour, gesture, and intuition, allowing these elements to guide and communicate the world and my emotions around me. Each painting and ceramic piece becomes a reflection of my personal narrative.

Colour, for me, is not just a visual tool; it embodies emotion and memory, together with Escapism, which plays a pivotal role in my work. Through my art, I create spaces where imperfection triumphs over idealism. I celebrate the beauty found in the flaws, employing rich textures that invite touch and contemplation. These tactile surfaces mirror the complexity of femininity—strong yet vulnerable, intricate yet straightforward. My ceramics carry this essence, their organic forms and uneven glazes echoing the authenticity of the human experience.

In my exploration, I aim to redefine the notion of failure. Instead of shunning mistakes, I embrace them, or purposely make them, which is integral to my creative process, allowing them to inform, liberate and enrich my work. Each imperfection becomes a testament to resilience, a reminder of the beauty inherent in the journey of creation.

Ultimately, my art is a celebration of life—its chaos, its beauty, and its complexities. It invites viewers to find solace in the imperfect and to appreciate the richness of emotional landscapes, offering a moment of escape and reflection amidst the noise of everyday life.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
