ABOUT:

My art explores the intricate themes of conditioning, trauma, and the experience of living within dysfunctional family settings. Through my work, I delve into the process of breaking free from toxic relationships and observe the cycles and patterns in nature and human behavior. My practice underscores the strength of the mind and the concept of neuroplasticity, highlighting the capacity to recondition and rebuild life after trauma and depression. These explorations are presented through the lens of being a woman and a female artist, navigating the challenges of often having to compromise for support within a "brotherhood" of predominantly male-dominated sphere. As a continuous migrant, I keep field notes and journals over a period of 15 years living in different countries and speaking several languages. I use mixed media, collage, charcoal, acrylic, and pigments, and frequently paint on unprimed and unstretched canvas; I find this way to be very natural and organic, allowing the artworks to move with a slight current of the wind and be hung from the ceiling away from the wall, permitting the works to become alive, living subjects. During exhibitions, I emphasize the importance of participatory elements and stimulation of various senses: visual, tactile, auditory, smell, and eventually taste.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
