Discipline:

Artist

Location:

Luton, Bedfordshire

ABOUT:

Louise Lahive is a visual artist producing painting, mixed media and sculptural work. Her work is engaged with a re-imagining of the human figure and natural world and her images present personal realities inspired by histories, dreams, science and literature. Lahive’s work develops over a long period of time and her surfaces often present an obsessional quality with repetitive mark making and the building up of layers of paint. Lahive graduated from Kingston University in 1999 and since this time has worked and lived in the USA and UK. In 2012 Lahive became an elected fellow at Digswell Arts and began working as a visiting lecturer. In 2021 she graduated from the University of Hertfordshire with an MA in Fine Art. Her work is held in private collections in the UK, USA and China.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
