ABOUT:

I am a performer and performance maker working in dance, theatre, visual art and live art since graduating from De Montfort University, BA (Hons) Performing Arts and Arts Management.

Co-Director of Movema dance company and collaborator and previous company member of Ori Dance and The Suitcase Ensemble I regularly perform and choreograph in a wide range of settings. I have performed, created, and presented work all over the world including Canada, Brazil, France, Germany, India and around the UK.

Recent work includes music video choreography for Prospa (released 2021) and Dan the Man and directing ‘Taking Flight‘ performance project due to tour 2021.

As an artist I am inspired by movement, the relationship between the moving body and it’s environment, urban landscapes, in playful or competitive situations, in different cultures in different social paradigms.

My lived experience of growing up in the inner-city Birmingham Irish community, poverty and the social problems that come with it inform my work and artistic approach.

Engagement, accessibility and often interactivity are important aspects to my work, connection with the audience is always a key concern and a point of inspiration. I have worked extensively in community settings and find this a rich and inspiring practice.

Text is important and prevalent in my work, I am passionate about words and the links between poetry and movement.
I am continuing my exploration of my interests and obsessions to make amazing work that is visually stunning, thought-provoking and viscerally moving in solo and in collaborations with other artists.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
