ABOUT:

Michelle Baharier is a pioneering British multimedia artist whose expressive, often surrealist works powerfully narrate stories of disability, class, identity, and social justice. A graduate of the Slade School of Fine Art and founder of CoolTan Arts, Baharier’s bold portraits and performances—such as What Shapes You? at MIMA and The Great British Tea Break at the Bethlem Gallery—blend activism with fine art. With a practice spanning four decades, her work is held in esteemed collections including Tate and the London Transport Museum. A must for collectors, Baharier’s art challenges perception and celebrates resilience through vibrant, lived experience.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
