ABOUT:

My work is deeply personal, serving as both a therapeutic reconnection to my creative process and an exploration of my later-life experiences. Through the use of mixed media such as textured abstract painting, collage and stencilling I reflect on complex layers of emotion, memory, and self-discovery.

My process is intuitive, driven by a desire to experiment, play, and explore the unknown. I embrace the inevitability of mistakes, seeing them as opportunities for growth and unexpected insight. This allows me to approach each piece with the freedom to discover new techniques and personal revelations.

I also value empowerment of women which is expressed in my art. Historically women were portrayed in art as compliant muses. My female figures, largely characterised by prominent mouths, are more expressive, confident and rebellious.

I am very influenced by street art and artists and carry this over onto my canvasses and boards. My palette combines acrylic, spray paint, collage and inks to create colourful compositions that dance between abstraction and figuration.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
