ABOUT:

I am an artist based between London and Liverpool, I explore class as a site of tension or misunderstanding, I articulate complex social contradictions that are largely ignored or deemed too difficult to talk about. I use my work to reflect on personal experiences from my upbringing in Merseyside between 1982-2003. I work predominantly from a digital archive consisting of photographic, sound and video ‘banks’ that are either shot, recorded or collected. The exploration of division as something that can bring us together is embedded within my practice. This creates a space for an alternative narrative to arise - allowing the viewer to circumnavigate black and white thought patterns pushed on us by social media and increased segregation. Finished works enable deep and impactful engagement with contemporary political and historical events in short, sharp doses across physical and digital displays.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
